The federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has finalized plans to sell 50kg bags of rice to public servants at a subsidized rate of N40, 000. This initiative aims to mitigate the country’ s food crisis and its impact on Nigerians.
This information was detailed in a letter from the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter- governmental Affairs, signed by Jaiyesimi Abimbola, the Ministry’ s Director of Human Resources. The letter outlined the government’ s strategy to support citizens by making rice more affordable.
Recently, the federal government established centers nationwide where Nigerians can buy and sell 50kg bags of rice for N40, 000. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, emphasized that these initiatives are designed to improve living conditions for the population.
According to The Punch, the letter, dated Tuesday, August 6, instructed interested staff members to fill out a Google form on the OHCSF website and submit it to the Director of Human Resources for approval. Designated offices will manage the payment and distribution process, ensuring transparency with the Joint Union Council chairman of the ministry overseeing the exercise.
To ensure equitable distribution, each worker is permitted to purchase only one bag of rice. Those experiencing financial hardships are encouraged to participate in a shared payment arrangement to afford the bag of rice.
” As part of the Federal Government’ s efforts to alleviate the current food crisis in the country and its effects on the general population, I am directed to inform you that 50kg bags of rice will be sold at a subsidized rate of N40, 000 only per bag to interested public servants in Abuja, ” the letter stated.
For efficient implementation, interested staff must complete a Google form on the OHCSF website, print it, and submit it to the Director of Human Resources for endorsement. The payment and distribution of the rice will be coordinated by designated officials, with the Joint Union Council chairman acting as an observer to ensure transparency.
In a related development, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced a Youth Internship Scheme initiated by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). This program aims to provide financial support to youths in the Niger Delta region, with at least 10, 000 beneficiaries receiving N50, 000 monthly.
Akpabio urged the region’ s youth to avoid participating in protests against President Tinubu’ s administration, highlighting the Niger Delta as a protest- free zone. He encouraged them to focus on the opportunities provided by initiatives like the NDDC scheme, which aims to reduce hunger and hardship.
These measures by the Tinubu administration represent efforts to address pressing economic challenges and improve the well- being of citizens amid ongoing food insecurity and economic difficulties.
