Following the removal of Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume from his positions as Chief Whip and Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, various women’s groups and supporters, including Ward and Unit Coordinators of Senator Ndume in the Southern Borno Senatorial District, have vowed to stage a peaceful protest at the National Assembly. The cause of this upheaval stems from Ndume’s outspoken criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which he has accused of being characterized by hunger and insecurity.
Ndume’s Coordinators from each of the 101 Wards in the nine Local Government Areas of Biu, Hawul, Bayo, Shani, Gwoza, Chibok, Kwaya Kusar, Askira-Uba, and Damboa gathered at the ousted senator’s residence in Maiduguri on Thursday. This solidarity visit was a strong show of support, with the Coordinators expressing their unwavering allegiance to Ndume and their readiness to stand with him in all political ramifications.
The Coordinators, representing various localities, voiced their collective stance: “We elected Senator Ndume to go and represent Southern Borno people, and by extension, Borno and Nigeria as a whole, irrespective of political affiliations. Therefore, we enjoin our Senator, who is passionate about the plights of average Nigerians, to go back to Media Houses and add that, apart from hunger and insecurity in the land, there is corruption, unemployment, and a loss of hope due to the bad policies of the present administration.” Pastor Moni Mushari, speaking on behalf of the Ward Coordinators and hailing from Askira-Uba Local Government Area, quoted John 8:31: “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” Pastor Mushari emphasized that all 101 Ndume Ward Coordinators stand firmly behind Senator Ndume for his truthful stance on the state of the nation.
The supporters praised the development efforts of Governor Babagana Zulum, highlighting Ndume’s contributions to these initiatives. The people of Southern Borno, as per the Coordinators, are proud of the unprecedented development driven by Governor Zulum, in which Ndume has played a significant role by complementing the state government’s efforts to provide the dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
In response to the visit, Senator Ndume expressed his gratitude for the show of solidarity.
