Murder Confession Rocks Akwa-Ibom: Man Admits To Killing And Hiding Motorcyclist
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has paraded 20 suspects, including a shocking confession from Daniel Edem Okon, a 23-year-old from Ibiono Ibom local government area. Okon admitted to the gruesome murder of a commercial motorcyclist, Saviour Anthony Effiong (45), whom he stabbed to death and buried in a shallow grave. Commissioner of Police Mr. Waheed Ayilara, briefing the press at the Police Headquarters in Ikot AkpanAbia Uyo, revealed that Okon was apprehended during a routine stop and search operation while on his way to find a buyer for the stolen motorcycle in Nassarawa, Itam. Ayilara urged caution to commercial motorcyclists, advising them to avoid isolated areas late at night to mitigate risks of such crimes.
The Commissioner further detailed other significant arrests and recoveries by the command, including the dismantling of a notorious kidnapping syndicate led by Ubong Effiong Archibong, alias Condiment. This operation yielded firearms and ammunition recovered from a private mortuary acting as an armory in Okobo L.G.A. Additionally, arrests were made in connection with theft at the Ibom Tropicana Complex, where stolen items were recovered.
Further crackdowns involved arrests of vandals involved in electricity cable theft and burglaries at Eastern Obolo General Hospital, where stolen medical equipment and electronics were recovered. The Commissioner emphasized the importance of community collaboration in maintaining security and encouraged continued support from the public and partner agencies.
