Outcry over alleged attack on family of fleeing same-sex suspect
Family members of a suspected bisexual, Mutairu Alabede Okanlawon, are living in fear following incessant attacks by hoodlums.
The family said the hoodlums have continuously attacked its members although the suspect escaped from them and fled the country.
A spokesperson for the family, Daniel Alabede at a press briefing held in Lagos said Mutairu was allegedly caught in an amorous mood with one of his Junior Pastor in September 2023.
He noted that while Mutairu managed to escape from the scene, hoodlums suspected to be Anti-Gay Vigilante in the neighborhood have sustained periodic attacks on members of the family including Mutairu’s wife Oluwabukola Alabede.
Daniel said: ”’ Around September 2023, Mutairu was attending a church programme in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, when he was said to have been caught in an amorous mood with a junior Pastor in one of the rooms at the church’s quarters. He was stripped naked but he managed to escape from the scene and fled into hiding.

” While Mutairu has since fled abroad, hoodlums suspected to be Anti-Gay Vigilante in the neighborhood have continuously attacked members of our family. The hoodlums first stormed our family house in the Mushin area of Lagos two days after Christmas last year and attacked us thinking that he was hiding my brother from them.
While our mother has not fully healed from the injury and trauma of the attack, the hoodlums again visited our family house in late February this year and they returned on April 28 2024 this year threatening to raze our family home if we did not produce my brother and hand him over to them. Before they left, they threatened to come back and vowed to kill Mutairu if they found him in our home.
”We cannot report these sustained attacks on our family to the police because of the fear and because bi-sexual is against the law of Nigeria and there is nothing we can do to arrest the people behind the attack and protect our family members including Mutairu’s wife, Oluwabukola Alabede, who has also been receiving threatening messages and calls on her mobile home and has also gone into hiding with her three children for fear of being killed by the hoodlums, hence, our outcry.”
