In a recent development, Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has issued a new eviction notice to Fulani herdsmen in Oyo State. This notice targets herders suspected of involvement in a series of killings and abductions of residents in the region. The announcement was made by Igboho’ s spokesperson, Olayomi Koiki, in an audio message released to SaharaReporters on Monday evening.
According to the statement from Koiki, Igboho has mobilized his followers to enter various forests in the Oke- Ogun areas of Oyo State with the intent to expel all Fulani herders residing there. These herders have been accused of being responsible for continuous kidnappings and murders affecting the local population.
In the audio message delivered in Yoruba, Koiki emphasized the urgency of the situation. He said, “Today is the 15th of July, 2024. This breaking news is issued around 6 pm. All Fulani people living in Oke Ogun, living inside the bushes there, who are kidnappers, that are killing the people, are immediately ordered to leave now. Sunday Igboho said he would continue his work at Oke- Ogun, in Kishi and all communities that made up of Oke- Ogun. He said he would touch all those places remaining.
“All Fulanis should leave the bush in Oke- Ogun. The forest does not belong to you. The land belongs to us. He added that he is also waiting for the Obas in other parts of Yoruba land to speak up if they are witnessing attacks from Fulani people.
Koiki further noted that Igboho was prepared to drive away those whom he described as “miscreants” hindering the Yoruba people from accessing their farms. Igboho assured that his actions were not intended to create conflict with any governor. Instead, he mentioned his readiness to send his men to clear forests occupied by herders across Yoruba lands. However, he is awaiting consent from traditional rulers (Obas) in the other Yoruba states, including Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, and Osun.
