A tragic incident unfolded in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State when a tricycle operator, also known as a” Keke” rider, took his own life after repeated unsuccessful attempts to retrieve his confiscated vehicle from government officials. The distressing sequence of events began when the tricyclist was stopped by traffic enforcement officials for an alleged traffic violation. Eyewitnesses captured the incident on video, which was subsequently shared on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). According to witnesses, the officials seized the tricycle and transported it to their office located near Jubilee Estate along the Ikorodu- Sagamu Expressway.
Despite the tricyclist’s persistent efforts to reclaim his vehicle, his appeals were ignored. Frustrated and despondent, the tricyclist resorted to a tragic end by hanging himself from a tree in front of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and Vehicle Inspection Officers’ office in Ikorodu.
The harrowing video footage depicts the lifeless body of the tricyclist hanging from a tree, with a rope around his neck. A note accompanying the video suggested that the man’s drastic action was driven by his frustration over his inability to recover his tricycle.

One eyewitness, Prince Excel, described the scene in a poignant statement: “This is early Thursday morning, July 11, 2024, an unfortunate situation just happened right now. A man just committed suicide on the major road at the Jubilee Estate in front of the LASTMA gate on the Sagamu Road. This is quite unfortunate.”
The note attached to the video provided further context: A tricyclist, Keke Marwa rider, just committed suicide. He hanged himself in front of LASTMA’ s office at Odogunyan in Ikorodu. Reportedly, his Keke was taken from him. He begged them (for) so long but they refused. So, the man decided to hang himself in front of their (office). So sad. ”
