Minimum Wage: TINUBU Sends Final WARNING After Labour Union REJECTS His Proposal
Presidential Bola Tinubu during a meeting with the organised labour in Abuja, warned the workers to cut their cloth according to the available material regarding their demand for a minimum wage that seems impossible for the government to pay.
The President and his cabinets proposed a N62, 000 wage for the workers, however, their proposal was rejected by the labour union who insisted that they would not accept any amount below N250, 000.
Amid the unending negotiation between the two parties, President Tinubu on Thursday had a meeting with the leaders of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, where he warned them to base their demand on the available resources.
Mr. President at the meeting declared that his administration will always work towards the goodness of the workers because he believes that happy workers will result in good productivity. He, however, warned the workers to make sure their demands are realistic, particularly regarding the minimum wage.
” You have to cut your coat according to available cloth, ” Tinubu told the organised labour. ” Before we can finalize on the minimum wage process, we have to look at the structure. ”

” Why must we adjust wages every five years? Why not two? Why not three years? What is a problem today, can be eased up tomorrow. There is much dynamism to this process if we are not myopic in our approaches. We can take a surgical approach that is based on pragmatism and a deep understanding of all factors, ” he added.
Meanwhile, while speaking after the meeting, Joe Ajaero, the President of the NLC, insisted that the N250, 000 is the minimum amount the workers will accept as the minimum wage. He added that they were planning to reduce the amount, even though the federal government and the organised private sector are proposing N62, 000 as the new minimum wage.
