UPDATE ! Tinubu REMOVES Wike As FCT Minister? Tension In Abuja As Lawmakers Demand Sanction Against Wike; SEE Details
The House of Representatives has demanded sanctions against Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and six Area Council Chairmen for alleged insubordination and disregard for the legislative body.
This call was made by Ikonne Ifeanyi, a member of the House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, during a committee meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ifeanyi expressed his frustration over the Minister and council chairmen’ s refusal to appear before the House despite being invited. He emphasized that this action showed a lack of respect and regard for the House of Representatives.
” Why must we invite someone here and they are given us the date they will appear? What about the risk people took to be there? We should not be seen pleading for them to appear before us, ” Ifeanyi stated.
He further suggested that they should be the ones seeking the House, not the other way around, and proposed sanctions, including withholding approvals for both the minister and the council chairmen, and urging the president to remove Wike as the FCT minister.
” Henceforth, we will not approve anything for both the minister and the area council chairmen, and as a matter of fact, we will tell the president to remove Wike as the FCT Minister. I hereby move as a motion to bring this to the floor of the House for them to come and explain why they are not honouring our invitation, ” he said.
