CONGRATULATIONS! After Rejecting N62, 000 Minimum Wage, GOVERNORS Send Fresh Message To Nigerian Workers
The Nigerian Governors have promised to agree to a better minimum wage for the workers after they rejected the N62, 000 proposed by the federal government by claiming that they could not afford it.
According to a statement released after the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, NGF, meeting, they claimed that the ongoing negotiation over the minimum wage will result in a better amount for the workers. They said the forum will continue to engage with relevant stakeholders to reach a agreement over the wages.
” The Forum discussed the new National Minimum Wage. The governors agreed to continue engaging with key stakeholders to reach a mutually agreeable solution. We remain dedicated to the process and assure that better wages will result from the ongoing negotiations, ” the statement explained.
This comes after Governors described the N60, 000 as an unsustainable minimum wage, stressing that it will force many States to spend all their FAAC allocations on just paying salaries with nothing left for development and other important projects.
This was made known in a statement made available to the newsmen by the Director of Media and Public Affairs for NGF, Halimah Ahmed.
” All things considered, the NGF holds that the N60, 000 minimum wage proposal is not sustainable and cannot fly. It will simply mean that many states will spend all their FAAC allocations on just paying salaries with nothing left for development purposes, ” the statement read, claiming that some States will have to borrow to pay workers’ salaries.
