A tragic incident has occurred in Kapsabet, Nandi, where a Kenya Defence Force (KDF) personnel allegedly killed a presbyter of the Anglican church, Rev. James Kemei, in a love triangle gone wrong.
The 43-year-old clergyman was found stabbed to death on Wednesday, reportedly after being caught in a compromising position with the KDF soldier’ s wife, a lay reader at the church.
According to eyewitnesses, the soldier had set a trap for the priest after discovering his affair with his wife.
On Wednesday night, he found them together on his marital bed, leading to a violent confrontation.
The soldier allegedly punched the priest, knocking him unconscious, before mutilating his genitals..
“The enraged military officer set the trap after discovering that the presbyter was having an affair with his wife, who was a lay reader at the same church. The trap materialised on Wednesday night when he found her in a compromising position on his marital bed, ” a neighbour said on the phone.
He then turned on his wife, breaking her hands before fleeing the scene.
Good Samaritans rushed the critically injured priest to Kapsabet Level 5 Hospital, and later to Eldoret Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The incident is under investigation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and has also been reported to the military police.
The injured woman, who is still at large, had fled the couple’s home after the incident.
Local residents revealed that the priest had been transferred to Sang alo parish in Mosop but continued to commute from Kapsabet due to his alleged love affair with the lay reader.
