In a shocking and alarming incident, Rachael Olufogbe, a 300- level student at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) in Ekiti State, has been apprehended by police following a severe altercation with a fellow student.
This clash, which resulted in grievous
bodily harm, transpired on a Saturday in a privately-owned hostel situated in Oye Egbo, a town off the university grounds. Reports indicate that a seemingly insignificant dispute over the use of a shared clothesline escalated into a violent confrontation. The confrontation began when the victim relocated Olufogbe’ s clothes to make space on the clothesline for her own laundry. This act, perceived as a provocation, led to a heated exchange of words between the two students. The disagreement escalated dramatically when Olufogbe allegedly picked up a blade and attacked the victim, causing serious injuries.
Photographs obtained by correspondent vividly shows the extent of the assault, showing deep. cuts on the victim’s throat, head, and chest. Confirming the incident, the Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Prof. Sunday Fashina, explained the weight of the situation, while pointing out that it occurred off-campus, the incident happened outside the campus in a private hostel.
“Nobody dares that within the campus because they know the rules and regulations, if anyone tries that, it will catch up with them, “the police are already handling it, Prof. Fashina stated. He emphasized that the university has stringent rules to prevent such violent behaviors within its school premises as those involved will pay heavily.
In the meantime, Olufogbe remains detained by the police as they conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. Prof. Fashina outlined the procedural stance of the university concerning criminal matters, saying, “Once it involves the police, we cannot interfere,” when they are done with their investigations, they will write to the Vice-Chancellor to give their report.
