HEARTBREAKING!! After Four Years, TIB Shocks Nigerians, See Long List Of End Sars Protesters Still In Prison Despite Tinubu’s Claims
A pro-democracy and human rights group, Take It Back Movement (TIB), has contradicted the Nigeria Police Force’s claim that no #EndSARS protesters are still being unlawfully detained in their custody or by other security agencies across the country. The police had issued a statement denying the allegations, but TIB has released a list of names of protesters still being held in various prisons in Lagos State, including Kirikiri Medium Prison, Ikoyi Prison, and Kirikiri Maximum Prison.
According to the list, several protesters, including Dare Williams, Daniel Joyibo, Adigun Sodiq, Ismail Olaogun, Rasheed Wasiu Bolaji, and Moshood Biola, are still being held in Kirikiri Medium Prison. Additionally, Segun Ogundare and Azeez Mudashiru are being held in Ikoyi Prison, while Ismail Mufutau is in Kirikiri Maximum Prison.
Another list circulating on social media names 31 #EndSARS protesters still languishing in different prisons across the country. The list includes Ogidi Joseph, Marcus Joseph, Joseph Oyebowale, Muyiwa Onikoyi, Taiwo Fagbemi, Jamiu Sani, Segun Adeniji, Ibrahim Adesanya, Daniel Joyibo, Dare Williams, Sunday Ikorodu, Adigun Sodiq, Yusuf Rafiu, Shehu Anas, and Yakubu Olayiwola, among others.
The police’s denial of holding any #EndSARS protesters contradicts the evidence provided by TIB and the lists circulating on social media. The police’s claim that the matter has been concluded and lessons have been learnt” rings hollow in the face of these revelations.
Senator Shehu Sani had earlier called on President Bola Tinubu to release the #EndSARS protesters still in detention, almost four years after the October 2020 protest. Sani noted that those who took part in the protest should be considered champions of democracy, and that he and other peers who fought for democracy in Nigeria were inspired by President Tinubu’s doggedness.
The Take It Back Movement’s expose highlights the need for the government to address the lingering issue of #EndSARS protesters’ detention and ensure their speedy release. The police’s denial and lack of response to the lists of detained protesters raise concerns about the transparency and accountability of the security agencies involved.
