Troops on operations in the southeast have arrested the killers of five soldiers during a raid on the hideouts of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) fighters.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, made this announcement during a press briefing on Thursday, June 13. The soldiers were attacked and killed on May 30 in Aba by gunmen enforcing a sit-at-home order declared by IPOB to mark Biafra Day.

According to Major General Buba, the military conducted intelligence-based operations that led to the discovery and destruction of several IPOB/ESN camps across the southeast region. One significant location targeted was. the Igboro forest in Arochukwu, known for being a stronghold for IPOB/ESN fighters.

“The arrested IPOB fighters have been assisting the military in locating other camps and individuals, “Gen. Buba said. “We have sustained the momentum against the terrorists and their cohorts, which is crucial to our operations. This is why we take the fight to the enemy and allow them no respite.

He emphasized the importance of focusing on their war efforts, mobilization, and air strikes on terrorists. This combination has resulted in several significant achievements on the battlefield.

In the past week, troops have made considerable progress. According to Gen. Buba, they killed 197 terrorists. and arrested 310 criminals. Among those arrested were 22 oil thieves, and the troops also managed to rescue 251 kidnap victims.

In terms of weapons and ammunition, the troops recovered a substantial amount, including: 2 PKT guns, 73 AK- 47 rifles, 17 locally fabricated guns, 3, 207 rounds of 7. 62mm special ammo, 1, 022 rounds of 7. 62mm NATO ammo and 243 rounds of 7. 62 x 54mm ammo.

In the Niger Delta area, the troops seized 728, 360 liters of stolen crude oil, 143, 450 liters of illegally refined diesel, 1, 100 liters of kerosene, and 18, 750 liters of petrol. They also discovered and destroyed 29 dugout pits, 22 boats, and 26 storage tanks. Additional items recovered include 66 cooking ovens, 8 vehicles, and 43 Illegal refining sites.

These operations highlight the ongoing efforts of the military to combat terrorism and criminal activities in the region, ensuring the safety and security of the citizens.
