Election won’t hold in 38 Imo polling units – INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that the upcoming November 11 governorship election in Imo State will not be held in 38 polling units. The state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Sylvia Agu, explained that these 38 polling units had zero voter registration. She also provided statistics, stating that 2,318,919 people had collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), with 101,003 people yet to collect theirs. A total of 4,720 polling units will host the election, while the election won’t take place in 38 polling units with no registered voters.
Agu stated that INEC is well-prepared for the off-cycle election and that the workforce involved in the election comprises around 21,000 staff. The election is scheduled to start at 8.30 am and conclude at 2.30 pm, with electronic result collation being implemented. Out of the 13 programs planned by INEC for the election, 11 have already been executed, with the remaining two being the last day for political parties and candidates’ campaign on November 9 and the election itself on November 11.
