Howard varsity revokes Diddy’s honorary degree amid sexual assault charges

Howard University has revoked the honorary degree it conferred upon Sean “Diddy” Combs following a unanimous vote by its Board of Trustees.
This decision was influenced by a recently surfaced video showing Combs assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in a hotel hallway in 2016.
The university deemed Combs’ behaviour fundamentally incompatible with its core values.
A spokesperson for Howard University told Fox DC, “The Howard University Board of Trustees voted unanimously today to accept the return by Mr. Sean Combs of the honorary degree conferred upon him in 2014.
This acceptance revokes all honours and privileges associated with the degree.
Accordingly, the Board has directed that his name be removed from all documents listing honorary degree recipients of Howard University.”
The university’s decision was also informed by a Rolling Stone article detailing allegations that Combs had abused a girlfriend on campus in thel ate 1980s.
Combs, who was a student at Howard before dropping out in 1990, received an honorary doctorate and served as the commencement speaker in 2014.
The controversy escalated after the video, which corroborates part of Ventura’s allegations against Combs, was obtained exclusively by CNN.
In the video, Combs is seen wearing only socks and a towel as he chases after Ventura.
Combs has apologised for his actions, calling his behaviour “inexcusable.”
He reflected on his past, stating, “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you got to do that. I was f-ed up – I hit rock bottom but I make no excuses.
“My behaviour on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video.”
