BREAKING: Senate officially confirms Chira Auditor General for Federation
In a recent development, the Senate has officially confirmed Mr. Shaakaa Chira as the Auditor General for the Federation (AuGF), in accordance with President Bola Tinubu’s appointment.
Chira’s confirmation took place during a screening conducted by senators in the Committee of the Whole, led by Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
Additionally, the Senate also screened and approved seven out of the ten presidential nominees for the position of Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), following a request from President Tinubu. This request was presented on the Senate floor by Majority Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.
Senator Bamidele clarified that the confirmation of these nominees aligns with the provisions of Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution. The confirmed RECs include individuals from various states: Mr. Etekarnba Umoren (Akwa Ibom State), Mr. Isah Ehimeakne (Edo State), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola (Ekiti State), Mr. Abubakar Ahmed Mai‘aii (Gombe State), Mr. Shehu Wahab (Kwara State), Mr. Aminu Kasimi Idris (Nasarawa State), and Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq (Niger State).
Following their confirmation, Senate President Godswill Akpabio encouraged the appointees to leverage their experience in carrying out their respective responsibilities
