In an unusual incident, a priest in Florida reportedly bit a woman’s hand during a physical altercation that occurred while he was administering Holy Communion at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in St. Cloud on. Sunday, May 19.
The confrontation began around 10 a.m. during Mass. According to an official report, the conflict arose when the woman approached Father Fidel Rodriguez during the Holy Communion line.
It appeared she was not familiar with the proper procedure for receiving Communion.
After a brief exchange, it became evident that the woman was neither prepared nor in the proper state to participate in the sacrament.
Father Rodriguez then blessed her and
advised her to partake in the Sacrament of Penance (Confession) before returning to receive Holy Communion.
Later that day, the same woman returned for another Mass at 12 p. m. and again entered Father Rodriguez’ s Communion line.
When asked by Father Rodriguez if she had participated in the Sacrament of Penance (Confession), she replied dismissively, stating it was not his business.”
The situation escalated when Father. Rodriguez attempted to offer her Holy Communion on the tongue, as per traditional practice.
However, the woman forcefully reached into the vessel containing the Communion hosts and grabbed some, crushing them in her hand.
Father Rodriguez, having only one hand free, struggled to restrain her as she refused to release the hosts.
In the midst of this struggle, the woman pushed him.
Perceiving this as an act of aggression, Father Rodriguez reacted by biting her hand in an attempt to make her let go of the sacred hosts she had seized.
Following the incident, the woman made a statement to the police. As of now, authorities have not charged Father Rodriguez with any crimes, although he could potentially face charges depending on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
Officials have not provided details about any injuries the woman may have sustained during the altercation.
