JUST IN: Court halts Fubara’s impeachment, orders Assembly, CJ to maintain status quo
A Rivers State High Court in Isiokpo Division, Ikwerre Local Government Area, has issued an interim order preventing the Rivers State House of Assembly, Speaker Martins Amaewhule, Deputy Speaker, Clerk of the House, and Chief Judge of the State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, from taking any action regarding the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. This order was issued by Presiding Judge, Justice Ben Whyte, in response to a lawsuit filed by the governor.
Justice Whyte has instructed all parties to maintain the current state of affairs until the Motion on Notice is decided. The suit has been adjourned to November 14, 2023, for the hearing of the motion on notice.
