Biodun Oyebanji, the governor of Ekiti State, has failed to return to Nigeria over two weeks after leaving for a four-day conference in Texas, United States.
Governor Oyebanji departed Nigeria
on Sunday, May 5, 2024, to attend the
16th edition of the US- Africa Business Summit, which was organized by the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) and would take place in Dallas, Texas, from May 6 to 9, 2024. It was gathered that the governor was still in the US, and there has been no official information providing details of any official engagements or meetings held by the governor since. the conference ended on May 9, with the exception of claims that Oyebanji would hold discussions with critical stakeholders and business leaders in the US.
There is no official information or images of the governor’s talks with business executives, nor are their identities available. According to a source, the governor was due to retum but was astonished to still be gone, However, it was learned that Oyebanji was expected to receive the leadership of the Nigeria Institute of Architects (NIA), led by President Arc Mobolaji Adeniyi, and the Architect Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON), led by President Arc Dipo Ajayi, who were in the state for their annual extraordinary general assembly meeting on Wednesday.
A respectable news outlet attemptedto reach the governor for comment but was unable. His phone number was shut off, so he could not be reached directly. However, text messages sent to him over WhatsApp were delivered but he did not respond to them. He also responded to multiple WhatsApp calls on Thursday. Oyebode, the governor’s special adviser on media, did not return calls or respond to text messages sent to his cell lines.
It is also reported that immediately
after Oyebanji departed the nation, certain All Progressives Congress (APC) members began political turmoil in the state. The APC stakeholders protested the nomination of former Governor Ayodele Fayose’s supporters to political positions.
