Not less than 11 individuals have perished and five sustained injuries when two vehicles traversed explosive devices in Gamboru-Ngala and Dikwa local government territories of Borno State.
The deceased include nine members. of the Civilian Joint Task Force, who passed away on the preceding Saturday, April 27, in Gamboru- Ngala Local Government Area, and two civilians, who succumbed on Saturday, May 4, in Dikwa Local Government Area.
“Our personnel departed Ngala in the afternoon of last week Saturday, and just at the outskirts of the town, their vehicle encountered an explosive device suspected to have been planted by insurgents, “Borno State CJTF spokesperson, Bashir Abbas, revealed to newsmen.
“Nine of them perished instantly and two sustained severe injuries and were transported to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, as the vehicle was completely wrecked, “he confirmed.
“At approximately 1 pm today (Saturday, May 4), a Honda SUV encountered an explosive device between Dikwa and Damno in Dikwa LGA, which detonated, resulting in the demise of two individuals and injuries to three others, all civilians, “a credible source from the Borno Police Command validated to newsmen.
However, an observer, Rawa Fannami, a resident of Dikwa, verifying the Damno- Dikwa occurrence, remarked, ” Five individuals perished instantly when the vehicle encountered the explosive device.”
Fannami elucidated that the unfortunate vehicle was part of a wedding procession conveying a bride from Damno to Dikwa. I was not in the vehicle transporting the bride.
He mentioned that the fragmented. remains of the deceased could only be collected in sacks for burial. The newsmen had previously reported that numerous individuals now meet their demise in explosive device detonations believed to have been planted either during the height of the insurgency or presently as part of novel tactics by the insurgents when they lack the capability to execute other forms of assault.
As of the time of compiling this report, 7 Div spokesperson, Lt Col Ajemusu Jingina, could not be contacted for remarks on how the military intends to counter the insurgents’ new tactics.
