Man Who Traveled From Abuja To Lagos To Bury His Wife Dies, What Killed Him Will Shock You
Tragedy struck on Wednesday morning when a Toyota Corolla vehicle became immobilized in a precarious position at Fomon bus stop, Ewu Owa, along Gberigbe road, Ikorodu, Lagos.
According to witnesses, three individuals from the vehicle disembarked and commenced efforts to extricate it from the submerged
area. Suddenly, one of the men collapsed
amidst the floodwaters. He was promptly retrieved, and onlookers
gathered around as expected. Various attempts were made to resuscitate him, but he was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. A sorrowful occurrence indeed! The man purportedly traveled from Abuja to rendezvous with his in-laws to discuss funeral arrangements for his deceased wife.
He was en route to the meeting when the vehicle he was traveling in became ensnared in the ‘Ewu Owa River.
This tragic incident once again underscores the severe repercussions of the deteriorating condition of the Gberigbe road, which has worsened over time. Rainfall always exacerbates the situation, causing distress.
In a single day, numerous vehicles, including tricycles and motorcycles, find themselves stranded at the treacherous spot at the Fomon bus stop. Regrettably, unemployed individuals known as Omonile’ (landowners) have been exploiting stranded motorists for profit. They demand up to 5,000 to assist in freeing trapped vehicles. When their efforts prove futile, they arrange for heavy-duty trucks to tow the vehicles, but the vehicle owners must, naturally, procure a chain for 7, 000, unless they possess one, to liberate their vehicles from the clutches of the flood.
It has become commonplace to witness motorcycle (Okada) riders plunging into the floodwaters with passengers onboard on a daily basis.
One frequently encounters individuals pleading for water to cleanse themselves of the mud. The impact on transportation expenses is a topic for another discussion. Residents in the Gberigbe area eagerly await government intervention regarding this notorious road.
