In a concerning development, officers from the Sokoto State Police Command have been apprehended on suspicion of involvement in kidnapping activities. The accused officers, identified as ASP Kulu and another individual named Elizabeth, are facing allegations of kidnapping minors within the state. This incident has prompted an urgent investigation by the command to shed light on the reported abduction of five children from the region.
The arrest of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kulu and Elizabeth was carried out by the FCT police command following accusations of abducting five children, including a baby girl less than two weeks old, in Sokoto. Confirming these arrests, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Ahmad Rufai, emphasized that both the suspects and the victims have been transferred to the command’s custody from the FCT police command for further scrutiny and legal proceedings.
Among the abducted children were three toddlers under the age of two and a five-year-old girl named Asmau Ya’ u, who was reportedly taken while en route to an Islamiyya school in Sokoto. The suspects’ capture occurred during a journey from Sokoto to Abuja in a commercial bus, where alert passengers raised concerns to the authorities near Abuja after observing that the children were not being properly cared for during the lengthy seven-hour trip.
Sirajo Madawaki, the state official of the Human Rights Network, disclosed that the case has been transferred to the network’ s office in Sokoto from Abuja, initiating a thorough investigation into the matter. Madawaki affirmed the network’ s commitment to pursuing the case diligently to ensure that justice is served, the suspects are prosecuted, and the abducted children are safely reunited with their families.
ASP Kulu, who was stationed at the Kubwa Division, had reportedly sought leave, which was denied prior to her journey to Sokoto.
