TRUTH Is Out! El- Rufai Finally Exposes Tinubu’s Govt; SEE What He Announced About Petrol Subsidy Removal
In a recent development that has taken many by surprise, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has revealed that the Nigerian Federal Government has reinstated the fuel subsidy, a move unbeknownst to many citizens. This revelation came during a press briefing in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, where El-Rufal highlighted that the government is now disbursing more funds for the subsidy than it did previously.
The return of the fuel subsidy marks a significant reversal from President Bola Tinubu’s initial policy. In his inaugural address, President Tinubu had declared the discontinuation of the fuel subsidy, deeming it economically unjustifiable. However, according to El- Rufai, the government has had to backtrack on this decision due to the ineffectiveness of the support packages intended to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal.
B-Rufai, a proponent of the subsidy withdrawal, expressed his continued support for the policy but acknowledged the necessity for adjustments in its implementation. Fuel subsidy is another policy that has been implemented by the president, which I believe is the right decision. I have always been in support of removing the fuel subsidy.”
“However, during the implementation process, it has become evident that the government now recognizes the need to reinstate the subsidy because we are currently spending more on subsidies than before. This is because the effects of removing the subsidy have been felt, and the support measures to mitigate these effects have not been very effective Therefore, the federal government is now reintroducing subsidies for petrol
“Many people are unaware that the fuel subsidy has been reinstated. To confirm whether subsidies are in place, people should compare the prices of petrol and diesel. Diesel, which should be more expensive, is priced above a thousand naira, while. petrol is at N600 per liter. “So, we are still subsidizing petrol because the government has realized that the initial implementation of the fuel subsidy required some adjustments. This highlights the importance of policy and policy pragmatism
The former governor’s comments have sparked a conversation about the transparency and pragmatism of government policies. El-Rufals stance on policy pragmatism underscores the need for flexibility and adaptability in policy.
El-Rufars insights were shared at a capacity- building workshop for senior government officials of Borno State, where he presented a paper titled Leadership and Public Policy: Navigating Challenges and Lessons The workshop aimed to enhance the skills of government officials in policy implementation and productive human resource management. The issue of fuel subsidy has long been a contentious topic in Nigeria, with debates centering around its economic implications and impact on the populace. The reinstatement of the subsidy under President Tinubu’s administration raises questions about the govemment’s economic strategies and the effectiveness of its support measures.
As the country grapples with economic challenges, the discourse on fuel subsidy continues to evolve. The Nigerian government’s decision to reinstate the subsidy, despite earlier intentions to abolish it, reflects the dynamic nature of public policy and the complexities involved in balancing economic objectives with social welfare considerations.
