An infant child which was born prematurely, was reportedly found dead at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Port Harcourt, in Rivers State.
It was gathered that the infant, a male was dropped in front of a female hostel at the school by an unknown person on the morning of Saturday, the 24th of February.
According to some students at the school, the baby boy, whose age was estimated to be between six and seven months old, was abandoned at the Rumulumeni campus of the university, in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers.
“I had woken up up in the morning, when I began hearing noise everywhere, so I went out (of my room). Only for me to see (people) gathering. When I checked, I saw a forming baby of about six months inside a hole.
“(The baby had) blood all over (the body) and the placenta. Whoever it is that did that, had removed the baby on Saturday morning, “one of the students said.
According to another source, the baby was aborted by one of the students at the school. “A lady staying in the hostel dumped a baby close to Salvation Hostel, at Ignatius Ajuru University. The infant was not really formed. He still had fresh blood on him. The baby may be about six months old, “the source said. Reacting to the case, the public relations representative for the university, Dr. Ngozi Okiridu, confirmed the development, but she said that it could not be ascertained if the child belonged to one of the students. Dr. Okiridu, however, said the case had been reported to the police. “We have had the baby buried. We are not sure it is one of the students that did that. But the police are handling the case because we reported it to them, she said.
The police public relations officer for the state command, DSP Grace Iringe- Koko, said that she had seen the story on social media but had not yet confirmed the incident from the Divisional Police Officer in the area where it occurred.
