A young student, Blessing Mathias, found herself ensnared in a web of violence and humiliation at the hands of Ayokhai and his kin, their actions spurred by allegations of romantic rivalry.
In a series of harrowing videos that circulated online, Blessing, a mere 20 years of age, is depicted enduring a barrage of physical and psychological abuse at the hands of her assailants. Stripped of her dignity and subjected to unspeakable indignities, she became the unwitting protagonist in a grotesque spectacle of retribution and vengeance.
The roots of this tragedy can be traced to a simmering feud between Blessing and Emmanuella, Ayokhal’ s daughter, over matters of the heart. A chance discovery of Emmanuella’s purported communication with Blessing’ s romantic interest served as the tinder that ignited the flames of conflict. In a misguided attempt at justice, Blessing and her allies. resorted to violence, confronting
Emmanuella and demanding retribution for the perceived transgression.
Days later, retribution came swift and merciless as Ayokhai, accompanied by his daughter and other relatives, launched a brutal assault on Blessing. Stripped of agency and driven to an undisclosed location, Blessing endured further degradation at the hands of her tormentors, her clothing forcibly removed by Ayokhai himself in a chilling display of dominance and cruelty.
In the wake of this abhorrent display of violence, the wheels of justice have been set in motion, albeit belatedly. The Nassarawa Police Command has launched an investigation into the matter, with two suspects apprehended and efforts underway to bring the remaining perpetrators to justice.
