An aged woman, 60 years of age named Hauwa Nelson admitted to repeatedly injuring a young girl identified as Merable Nelson, 9- year- old adopted child, during her arraignment before Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola, the capital city of Adamawa State.
The defendant acknowledged mistreating Merable, and the court remanded her for this despicable action against the minor.
Based on the available information, Merable was subjected to multiple beatings with a cable wire by the defendant on the 24th of last month, March 2024 reportedly for eating her cooked macaroni.
Hauwa was charged with three counts of intentionally causing harm, indecently treating a kid, and cruelty to a person, all in violation of Penal Code Law 2018 sections 209, 210, and 220.
Hauwa entered a guilty plea to the allegations brought against her by the Adamawa State Police Command at her arraignment before Chief Magistrate Muhammad Buba.
In addition, according to the police, Hauwa committed the crime on March 24, 2024, and the Adamawa State Social Welfare Office reported it to the Command on March 27, 2024.
Inspector Zakka Musa, the Police Prosecuting Officer, informed the court that Merable was attacked by the defendant, who lives in Bekaji, Jimeta, Yola, following her consumption of cooked macaroni.
He continued by saying that the girl was beaten mercilessly by the defendant, which caused her to sustain serious injuries on her back and other areas of her body.

Meanwhile, following the defendant’ s admission of guilt, the prosecuting attorney requested a postponement of the case so that he may bring a witness to support the admission of guilt and prove the case beyond every reasonable doubt.
The defendant was then sent to prison by the court presiding magistrate, which also granted the application and postponed the case until April 22, 2024 for next court hearing after which parents and guardians are advised to discipline their children or wards in the right way without causing them pain or discomfort in the process as such acts are questionable under the law even if it’s for the right reasons as there are better ways to correct a child without causing trauma on such child.
