APC Begins Process To Replace Ganduje As National Chairman; See Who They Have In Mind

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has kicked off internal consultations to appoint a new National Chairman following the unexpected resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Ganduje, who took over the party’s leadership in August 2023 after the exit of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, stepped down last week citing “urgent personal matters.” His departure came less than a year into his tenure, leaving a vacuum at the top of the ruling party’s leadership structure.
Reacting to the development, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, confirmed during a live interview on Channels Television that the party had already begun working on filling the leadership gap.
“We will take steps immediately to fill that vacancy,” Morka said. He added that the party was moving swiftly to avoid a prolonged leadership crisis that could destabilise its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Consultations in Full Swing

Although a specific date for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting has not been announced, Morka said that the process of finding a replacement was well underway. “As we speak, that process has been triggered, and consultations are ongoing,” he said.
Sources within the APC say the party is expected to adopt a consensus approach in selecting Ganduje’s successor, ensuring all major stakeholders are consulted before a formal announcement is made.

Political observers believe the APC is determined to avoid internal strife or factionalism, especially as the party begins early preparations for the next electoral cycle.
Ganduje’s resignation has also fuelled political speculation, with some suggesting that it might be tied to wider realignments within the party, especially amid rumours that President Bola Tinubu may be considering former Kano governor Rabiu Kwankwaso as a potential running mate in 2027 — a claim the party has since dismissed as speculative.
Regardless, party insiders insist that the immediate priority is stabilising the APC’s leadership and maintaining unity at a critical time. All eyes are now on the party’s NEC to see who emerges as the next national chairman.
