The federal government under President Bola Tinubu’ s leadership has stated that no ransom was paid to secure the release of the kidnapped Kaduna schoolchildren. Mohammed Idris, the minister of information and orientation appointed by Tinubu, provided this clarification following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja on Monday.
This statement from the government comes shortly after the military disclosed the details of the children’ s rescue operation in Zamfara state, less than 24 hours prior.
The federal government has explicitly denied the suggestion that ransom was exchanged for the release of the Kaduna schoolchildren who were previously abducted by bandits in the northwest state.
In a discussion with state house correspondents, Mohammed Idris, the minister of information and national orientation appointed by Tinubu, affirmed that no ransom was given to secure the release of the schoolchildren in Kaduna.
The clarification by the minister came following the federal executive council meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa on Monday, March 25, as reported by Leadership.
Idris said: ” As promised by Mr. President, they have been rescued. No ransom was paid. ” Additionally, he mentioned that President Tinubu conveyed appreciation to the national security adviser, service chiefs, and other individuals who played crucial roles in ensuring the safe release of the students.
On Sunday, March 24, the Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) officially confirmed the successful rescue of 137 schoolchildren, comprising 76 females and 61 males. Major General Edward Buba, the director of the defence media operations, issued a statement disclosing this information.
According to the military authority, the abducted individuals were liberated in Zamfara, another northwest state in Nigeria. The statement emphasized that the operation was conducted in collaboration with local vigilantes in the state.
This development occurred shortly after Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna state announced the release of the schoolchildren. While the governor did not provide further details following the announcement, he expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for overseeing the rescue operation.

Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, the gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State during the 2023 elections, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his dedicated efforts in tackling non-state adversaries.
He praised the administration’ s persistent and efficient actions against violent groups and other non- state actors, particularly highlighting the recent operation that led to the rescue of kidnapped children.
Ajaka underscored the importance of Nigerians setting aside biases and rejecting animosity towards one another.
In a statement issued on Monday, March 25, Ajaka expressed that President Bola Tinubu deserves full acknowledgment for the successful execution of the operation.
He said: ” Indeed, this milestone has brought immeasurable relief and assurances of safety to both the relatives of the victims and other Nigerians who have been sceptical of the ability of our security forces and the intelligence community to successfully grapple with and conclusively vanquish the menace of hydra- headed insecurity and widespread violent criminality in the country over the past couple of years. “
