Four people are being held by the Bauchi police after it was reported that they killed a 70-year-old woman in Doka Village, a suburb of Bauchi, by beating her for witchcraft. According to Kamal Mohammed, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the Incident occurred on September 5 at a hamlet in the state’s Bauchi Local Government Area. The deceased, Liyatu Michael, and another old woman who they believed to be a witch, were taken by the suspects to a room in a local home, according to Mr. Mohammed,” and started beating them.
According to the report he shared with the police, they took one of the women’s lifeless bodies out of the room and disposed of it in the backyard after learning of her death.
Keziya, the second victim, was hospitalised after surviving the beating.
Mr. Mohammed clarified that while other suspects are still at large and that the police are working to apprehend them and bring them to justice, four individuals have been apprehended in relation to the incident. He indicated that the four suspects would soon face charges of culpable homicide in court, and that the police are currently looking into the events leading up to Ms. Michael’s death.
According to PREMIUM TIMES, the two women’s troubles began when they reportedly admitted to being part of the group of people who practiced witchcraft and were caused” to suffer several setbacks and early deaths in the community. Then, in an attempt to coerce them into disclosing additional information about their purported crimes, the enraged throng leapt upon them.

One Doka resident, who asked to remain anonymous, claimed, Yelkon has been bedridden and seriously sick Immediately after she gave birth and we learned that her illness was caused by the two women who confessed to having “tied her” in the coven and said she would be sick until she dies.”
