SHOCKING Story Of How Man Burnt Himself To Death Over Hunger, High Cost Of Fuel And High Cost Of Living
It has been reported that a man from Kenya set himself on fire on Thursday in Mombasa City’s Central Business District (CBD) as a protest against the exorbitant cost of living.
A curious crowd had gathered at the Mwembe Tayari roundabout following the man’s ascent of one of the statues. The man, dressed in a black t-shirt and pants and holding a flag, ignited a matchbox and set himself ablaze. Unfortunately, he did not survive the fiery ordeal.
Mohammed Musa, the chief of Mwembe Tayari, reported that onlookers witnessed the event. Despite pleas from the public, the man was not persuaded to abandon his protest. As he shouted and eventually collapsed while burning, bystanders began recording the tragic events on camera.
He was promptly rushed to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
“We’re searching for his family, we have information that he graduated from the University of Nairobi, but we haven’t been able to confirm it yet, “stated Mr. Musa.
According to Ibrahim Basafar, the chief fire officer for Mombasa County, the man sustained severe burn injuries. While many believed he had succumbed to his injuries, sources indicate that he is still undergoing treatment at the hospital and may survive given the severity of his
burns.
The man’s mother, unable to explain her son’s actions, attributed it to the high cost of living in the country.
This incident is not isolated to Kenya but also resonates with many in Nigeria who are also grappling with the exorbitant cost of living. Such actions are likely to spark significant debate among the populace and urge officials to address the pressing issue of the high cost of living.
