WICKED PEOPLE Customs Intercepts 15 Trucks Smuggling Food To Niger Republic Despite Scarcity, Price Hike In Nigeria
In Sokoto State, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has halted fifteen trucks carrying food products in an attempt to stop smuggling, which has increased the price of commodities in the nation.
On Saturday, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) was informed by NCS Sokoto x Command Spokesperson Abubak Chafe that the trucks had been de near the Gwadabawa- Illela route.
According to Chafe, the amount of farm produce the rucks were transporting led to the interceptions.
He said the command currently had the trucks in its possession and that an Inquiry had begun to identify the owners and destinations of the food products.
He clarified that officers from the Federal Operation Unit, the NCS Sokoto Command, and the Intelligent Unit of the Service worked together to carry out the operation.
Chafe continued by saying that the nation’s ongoing food inflation made the operation essential. According to Oladeji, Nigerians were still smuggling food to foreign nations even though the lack of food was driving up living expenses.
“We will leave no stone unturned to block food smuggling out of the country because of the current situation in the country.
“We all know that prices of food items have skyrocketed because of the activities of some Nigerians. Our people are hungry, but they prefer to take the food to other countries despite the border closures imposed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
While warning that the service would continue to trail smugglers, and block their routes, he insisted that anyone caught would face the full wrath of the law.
