Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, a prominent activist for the self- determination of the Yoruba people in Nigeria, has defended Bola Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos state and the leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party, from the blame of the country’s economic hardship.
Igboho made this statement in a letter addressed to the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ ad Abubakar III, who had recently lamented the rising cost of living and the worsening insecurity in the country.
The Sultan held the political elite, particularly those who had previously ruled the country, responsible for the current condition. He also called on Nigerians to hold their leaders accountable and demand good government.
The emir previously stated that the country was bracing for trouble with a significant number of unemployed teenagers without food. He urged the federal government to take action to alleviate the suffering of the masses, who he claimed were hungry and upset about their situation.
Adeyemo responded in a personally signed statement on Thursday, February 15, claiming that important players cannot help but agree that Nigeria’ s socioeconomic difficulties must be addressed and overcome in order for the country to attain peace and development, according to Vanguard.
He stated that President Tinubu’s administration should be permitted to devise remedies capable of resolving the Immense misery caused by his economic policies.
However, the Yoruba nation activist insisted that Tinubu’s government should not be responsible for the current inflation and misery because it is just eight months old.
In his letter, Igboho said he respected the Sultan as a religious and traditional leader, but disagreed with his views on the causes of Nigeria’ s problems.
He said the Sultan should not blame the current administration of Tinubu who he been accused of mismanaging the economy, promoting nepotism, and failing to secure the lives and property of Nigerians.
Igboho said Tinubu, who is widely speculated to be the president who had done a lot for the development of the country and had also contributed to the growth of democracy in Nigeria.
He said Tinubu was not part of the cabal that had hijacked the government and was working against the interests of the masses.
Igboho also said that the economic hardship in Nigeria would not vanish overnight, unless there was a fundamental restructuring of the country along regional lines.
