AFCON 2023! ! Moroccan Female Referee Drops Bombshell, Reveals How NIGERIA Game Was A Big Challenge For Her [Video]
Bouchra Karboubi, a Moroccan female referee, has shared her experience of officiating Nigeria’ s Super Eagles game against the Djurtus of Guinea Bissau, which she described as a significant challenge. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had appointed three female officials for the final group game, and the pressure was on them to perform flawlessly.
Karboubi, who made history by becoming the second woman to officiate an AFCON match after Rwanda’ s Salima Mukansanga, said that the game was a serious challenge for her and her team. She explained that they had to prove their worth as the first women’ s referee trio and had no room for error, as they were living up to the trust that CAF had placed in them.
The Super Eagles, led by Jose Pesiero, will continue their quest for AFCON glory tonight in Ivory Coast, where they will face the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. The team has been performing well so far, and their fans are eagerly anticipating their performance in the upcoming match.
Karboubi’ s appointment as a referee for the Super Eagles game is a significant milestone for women in sports and a testament to the progress being made in promoting gender equality in football. Her performance in the game will undoubtedly inspire more women to pursue careers in sports officiating and encourage more female referees to participate in high- profile matches.
