Plan Ahead: NiMet Issues One-Day Weather Alert, Thunderstorms to Hit Major States

NiMet predicted rainfall with thunderstorms across major states in Nigeria, particularly the northern region

Abuja – The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across northern states in Nigeria on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Wednesday, July 30, thunderstorms with light and moderate rains are expected in parts of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kaduna, Taraba, Bauchi, and Katsina states.
The agency noted that thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected across the entire northern region in the afternoon and evening.
Northern states
⛅ Morning:
“Thunderstorms with light to moderate rains are expected in parts of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kaduna, Taraba, Bauchi, and Katsina States.
⛈️ Afternoon/Evening:
“Thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected across the entire northern region.”
Moderate rains expected in Niger, other central states
According to the agency, residents will experience light to moderate rains are expected in parts of Niger, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the morning.
In the afternoon and evening, light to moderate rains are likely over parts of Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, Niger, Benue, and the FCT.
Cloudy skies expected in southern states
In southern states cloudy skies with chances of light to moderate rains over parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, and Cross River states will be experienced in the morning.
While in the afternoon and evening, light to moderate rains are expected in parts of Ekiti, Oyo, Ondo, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.
NiMet issues safety advisory
The agency urged the public to take necessary precautions against strong winds, lightning, and localized flooding, especially during thunderstorms.
