ANOTHER ‘State Of Emergency’: Tinubu Asked To Suspend Another PDP Governor In Popular Yoruba State; SEE The State
A former Minister of Police Affairs, Oyewale Adesiyan, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Osun State, citing a total breakdown of law and order in recent months.
Adesiyan made this known in a statement issued on Sunday, 23 March 2025, in Osogbo, the state capital. He argued that Osun State has been plunged into chaos due to political instability and the failure of Governor Ademola Adeleke to manage the situation effectively.
The former minister highlighted the ongoing local government crisis, particularly the refusal of the state’ s Chief Executive to comply with the ruling of the Court of Appeal. This situation, he claimed, led to violence and the tragic deaths of innocent individuals, including the reinstated chairman of Irewole Local Government, Hon. Remi Abass.
” With the political instabilities in Osun State and having an incompetent governor to handle the situation in the fragile state, I think it is better to invoke the relevant portion of the constitution to bring back peace to Osun State, ” Adesiyan stated.
He based his call on Section 305 of the Nigerian Constitution, which grants the President the authority to declare a state of emergency in any state where law and order have broken down beyond the control of the government.
While Adesiyan has strongly advocated for this measure, it remains to be seen whether President Tinubu will respond to his call. If declared, it would mean a temporary suspension of the state’ s executive and legislative arms, placing Osun State under federal control until stability is restored.
