Nigeria’s Federal University Oye-Ekiti Committee Accused Of Manipulating Report To Shield Vice-Chancellor Fasina In Sexual Harassment Case

The investigative committee set up by the Governing Council of the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) to probe allegations of sexual harassment against Vice-Chancellor Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina has been accused of manipulating its findings to indict Engineer Adebayo Folasade, the complainant.
Sources familiar with the case told SaharaReporters on Sunday that the committee disregarded key evidence and instead concluded that Folasade fabricated the allegations.
In its report, the committee reportedly stated that the recorded conversation between her and the Vice-Chancellor was doctored, suggesting an attempt to defame both the university and its leadership.
The source told SaharaReporters that the committee has finalised its report and is set to submit it this week.
According to the source, the report concludes that Engineer Adebayo lied about the sexual harassment allegations despite existing evidence.
“This is where we find ourselves, even when Fasina himself admitted that he regretted making advances towards Engineer Adebayo. Yet, the committee, which has allegedly been bribed by Fasina, is now pushing a false narrative, forgetting that they, too, have daughters and wives, while some of them are women,” the source said.
The source further alleged that the university has a history of similar incidents, but because this case involves the Vice-Chancellor, efforts are being made to cover it up.
“Now, they are claiming that Engineer Adebayo deliberately fabricated the allegations to embarrass the institution. However, this is not the first time such an issue has occurred at FUOYE, but because the Vice-Chancellor is involved, they are trying to suppress it,” the source added.
Despite the controversy, the committee has reportedly concluded that Adebayo manipulated the recorded conversation in an attempt to defame the university.
The source expressed concerns over the lack of intervention from relevant authorities, including President Bola Tinubu, the Minister of Education and the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“This is a clear indication that oppressed people in Nigeria can never get justice, especially when the victim has no powerful connections to call for help,” the source lamented.
The source added that the Vice-Chancellor was allowed to continue overseeing university affairs despite the investigation, arguing that he should have stepped aside pending the outcome of the probe.

Fasina questioned Adebayo to know how their conversation was leaked to a third party.
The audio conversation went as follows:
Fasina: Why did you reveal our discussion?
Adebayo: Me! I never do such.
Fasina: Well, why I called you, somebody told me and I know it is from you.
Adebayo: I can never.
Fasina: He told me that I was even making advances toward you.
Adebayo: Me?
Fasina: It was so obvious that it was you. He said, I make advances with you, that if I’m doing that, that I should stop. Then that I even said that we gave some people money to manipulate appointment for the registrar, many things and I was like, haba! Adebayo, how could you do that to me? Nobody will know that I made advances toward you. I don’t think anyone would ever find out.
Number two, nobody will know that, he said SSS called him in Abuja blah blah on the matter, so it means you have not learned your lesson. I will tell you why. You had issue with Soremekun, nothing bad in making advances to you, you have options to say no.
But don’t begin to externalize, begin to tell people, you are making a mockery of yourself because number one, you are not only the woman on the campus. Many others are also making advances with the vice-chancellor, it is not all those who make advances to me I accepted.
Many ladies make advances to me, but the point is, the fact that someone makes advances toward you does not mean you should respond. It shows no maturity and then you are exposing yourself more to danger.
Because people will know definitely that you are the architect of your problem. Somebody told me, saying, ‘What is the problem with this girl? If she has a problem with Soremekun, and she has a problem with you, what’s going on?’ The person also said, ‘It’s part of what I did for you. Even if I made romantic advances towards you, even if I did that, I apologise for it.
I have already apologized, and that’s why I blocked you on my phone. Today, I was forced to call you, but I don’t want any interaction with you, which is why I said Akin needs to be here. However, I didn’t want Akin to know about this.
Adebayo: Excuse me, sir, what you are saying is like blackmail.
Fasina: It is not blackmail; the person called me and told me, I recorded it.
