JUST- IN: PDP Governors Break Silence, Speak On Dumping Atiku, Supporting El- Rufai/Peter Obi’s 2027 Presidential Ticket
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has firmly denied widespread rumours suggesting that five of its members are backing a possible 2027 presidential ticket featuring former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El- Rufai of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi.
In a strongly worded statement issued by the Forum’ s Director General, Dr Emmanuel Agbo, the Governors condemned the reports, describing them as ” unpleasant and provoking publications” aimed at destabilising the party and undermining its leadership.
The statement, released on behalf of the Forum by Bauchi State Governor, His Excellency Senator Bala Mohammed CON, accused ” negative forces and their agents” of spreading the misinformation.
The PDP Governors’ Forum asserted that the false claims were being circulated by individuals who could not tolerate the Forum’ s continued criticism of the ruling APC government’ s economic policies. According to the statement, these forces were working towards the establishment of a one- party system, which, if achieved, would weaken Nigeria’ s democratic values and hinder the progress of the opposition.
The Forum reiterated its unwavering commitment to the PDP and dismissed any suggestion of aligning with opposition figures outside the party. It described reports of PDP Governors supporting a Nasir El- Rufai/Peter Obi presidential bid as baseless and completely unfounded.
In response to the allegations, the PDP Governors reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening party unity and working towards policies aimed at alleviating the economic hardship facing Nigerians. Despite the challenges posed by the ruling APC, the statement highlighted that PDP Governors remained focused on governance and delivering impactful projects in their respective states.
” These mischief makers and detractors are merely intimidated by the outstanding performance of PDP Governors in their states and are resorting to spreading falsehoods to discredit our good work, ” the statement read. ” We will not allow such enemies of progress to mislead the Nigerian people. ”

The Forum also emphasised its commitment to the principles of equity, social justice, accountability, and the preservation of a free and fair electoral process.
As the 2027 general elections approach, the PDP Governors’ Forum pledged full support for the party’ s chosen candidate, promising to rally behind the flag- bearer to reclaim power from the APC. The statement reaffirmed the Forum’ s dedication to upholding the vision of the party’ s founding fathers and working towards a better Nigeria.
