INJUSTICE! Senator Natasha Spits Fire As Senate Suspends Her For Six Months
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has declared that the injustice against her “will not be sustained” following her suspension from the Senate.
She made the statement on Thursday while reacting to the decision of the Senate to suspend her for six months.
She said, “This injustice will not be sustained”, before being escorted out of the chambers.
Recall that on February 20, Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan engaged in a heated debate on the floor of the upper chamber of the National Assembly over a change in seating arrangements.
Days later, during an interview on Arise News, Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged that her troubles in the Senate began after she rejected sexual advances from Akpabio.
She submitted a sexual harassment petition against Akpabio on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Wednesday.
However, the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions rejected the petition, citing breaches of due process and Senate rules.
During plenary on Thursday, Akpoti-Uduaghan resubmitted her petition against the Senate President.
However, the Senate’s Ethics Committee recommended Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension for six months for engaging the Senate President in a heated debate over seating arrangements.
In an earlier report, a former presidential spokesman, Laolu Akande, has claimed the Senate is ganging up against Natasha over the sexual harassment allegation against Akpabio.
Reacting to the situation during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, March 6, 2025, Akande said the Senate gang-up against Natasha must stop.
He said the leadership of the Senate should show Nigerians that there will be a dispassionate consideration of the Kogi lawmaker’s allegations.
He said, “They need to stop all these images, meetings, and ganging up against this woman. That has to stop. The leadership of the Senate needs to show us that there is going to be a dispassionate consideration of her allegations.
“Once that is sorted, if you think that there is a need to punish her for violating the rules, it is the better way to handle it. This idea of all of the men coming out and brandishing the rules is not looking pretty at all.
“This woman has said to the whole world that she has been sexually harassed. We have to be careful, the Nigerian Senate has to be careful not to create an impression that we are trying to silence her.
“What we have been seen so far is a lot of men holding meetings, speaking out, coming to the media to run this woman down. It is a poor reflection on the Nigerian Senate,” he added.
