A Historic Gathering At IBB’ s Book Launch
The unveiling of the book took place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, in what appeared to be a high- profile national meeting. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was present, alongside former Nigerian leaders, including Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, Yakubu Gowon, and Abdulsalami Abubakar.
Also in attendance were former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar, Namadi Sambo, and Yemi Osinbajo, who reviewed the book. Business and political leaders from across the country graced the occasion, marking a significant moment in Nigeria’ s history.
IBB Takes Responsibility For June 12 Annulment
For the first time in 32 years, General Babangida publicly admitted that MKO Abiola won the election. He also praised former President Muhammadu Buhari for recognising Abiola as the rightful winner of the 1993 election.
While reflecting on the annulment, Babangida described it as ” one of the most regrettable” decisions in Nigeria’ s history. He revealed that the election was cancelled due to pressure from powerful forces, including General Sani Abacha, who was then Chief of Army Staff. However, he insisted that he did not personally authorise the annulment but accepted responsibility as the head of government at the time.
In his speech, IBB stated: ” I have had to contend with this question all the time– when will you tell your side of the story? Understandably, our period of service has evoked many questions and stories among the public. This book, which chronicles my experiences, decisions and challenges, tries to answer some of these questions from my modest perspective. “
