A man identified as Ibekwe Augustine James, the uncle of twins Moses Chris and Marvelous Chris, allegedly murdered and secretly buried them in a shallow grave in Umuahia, Abia State, with reports indicating that James has a history of mental instability.
However, the suspect, Ibekwe Augustine James, is also accused of brutally murdering the twins’ mother, Chinomso Nwabali James, in addition to his heinous crime of killing the twins. Following the gruesome murders, James allegedly fled the scene, leaving residents of the community in total shock.
DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, confirmed the tragic incident to newsmen on Wednesday, stating that a family member reported the matter at the Central Police Station in Umuahia.

Speaking further, the police spokesperson stated that the family member reported seeing his mentally unstable cousin dragging the lifeless body of Chinomso Nwabali James on the day of the incident.
The swift alarm raised by the family member prompted the suspect to hastily abandon the lifeless body of the victim and make a panicked escape from the scene.
According to the police spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, police officers promptly visited the scene of the incident, and subsequently, the lifeless body of the woman was conveyed to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where a medical doctor performed an examination and officially confirmed her death.

” While searching for the suspect and the missing twins at 2 am, the dismembered bodies of the children were found in different shallow graves within the community” , DSP Chinaka stated.
Sadly, the police spokesperson said the bodies of the three victims have been deposited at the mortuary in the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where an autopsy will be conducted. Efforts are also ongoing to apprehend the fleeing mentally challenged suspect.
The brutal murder of the twins and their mother by a mentally unstable family member serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for improved mental health support and resources in our communities, as well as the importance of addressing the often overlooked issue of family violence.
