Nnamdi Kanu’s Case DEEPENS As CNG Blocks His RELEASE From DSS Custody, See SHOCKING Reasons
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has expressed strong opposition to the potential release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). The group has firmly condemned what it describes as the ” terrorist tendencies” exhibited by Kanu, particularly in his recent courtroom appearances.
In a statement issued by the National Coordinator of CNG, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the group criticized Kanu’ s behavior during his trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja. According to Charanchi, Kanu’ s conduct, including his outright disrespect for judicial authorities and aggressive rhetoric, poses a significant threat to national peace and stability.
Charanchi noted that Kanu’ s actions in court, including insulting the prosecuting lawyer and demanding that the judge recuse himself, highlight a blatant disregard for the judicial process. ” By disrespecting the legal system and making inflammatory statements about the judiciary, calling it a ‘ shrine to injustice, ‘ Kanu has demonstrated contempt for the rule of law. His actions not only challenge the authority of the court but also contribute to the growing tension and division in the country, ” the statement read.
The Coalition has been vocal about its concerns regarding the activities of IPOB, warning against the dangers of allowing such separatist movements to gain traction. The CNG has reiterated its stance that if the Igbo people genuinely desire separation, it should be pursued through peaceful and legal channels rather than violent agitation. The group cited the Kaduna Declaration, which called on Igbo people residing in northern Nigeria to relocate to the southeastern region if they wished to be part of the Biafra movement.
CNG has consistently engaged with the Nigerian government, the United Nations, and foreign diplomatic missions to highlight the growing violence associated with IPOB. The Coalition has called for international intervention to ensure that any potential separation process is peaceful and does not plunge Nigeria into another civil conflict.
The Coalition further highlighted Kanu’ s past activities, emphasizing his role in fostering unrest within the country. Nnamdi Kanu was arrested on October 14, 2015, and charged with treasonable felony and other serious crimes. Despite being granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja on April 25, 2017, Kanu fled the country after violating his bail conditions.
While in exile, Kanu continued his campaign against the Nigerian state, using platforms such as Radio Biafra to propagate separatist ideologies and incite violence. The Nigerian government subsequently proscribed IPOB as a terrorist organization on September 20, 2017, following a Federal High Court ruling.
The Coalition stated that despite this proscription, Kanu persisted in his subversive activities. On December 12, 2020, he established the Eastern Security Network (ESN), an armed wing of IPOB. The ESN was reportedly involved in violent attacks targeting security personnel, civilians, and government infrastructure.
The CNG also accused Kanu of hijacking the EndSARS protests in October 2020. While the protests initially started as a peaceful demonstration against police brutality, the Coalition claims that Kanu leveraged the movement to incite violence against security forces and northern communities in the South- East. The group alleged that Kanu made direct calls for attacks on security personnel and government institutions, leading to the deaths of hundreds of Nigerians, including prominent individuals such as Dr. Chike Akunyili and Alhaji Ahmed Gulak.
According to the CNG, IPOB and ESN members were responsible for multiple violent incidents, including the destruction of police stations, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) offices, correctional centers, and private properties. The attacks reportedly led to the escape of 1, 841 inmates from correctional facilities and resulted in the loss of hundreds of security personnel.
Given these developments, the Coalition strongly opposes any demand for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu. The group asserts that such a move would not only be unjust but would also undermine efforts to restore peace and stability in Nigeria.
The CNG emphasized the need for the Nigerian government to uphold the rule of law and ensure that justice prevails. ” Releasing Kanu without due process would set a dangerous precedent, potentially emboldening other extremist groups to act with impunity. The government must stand firm in ensuring that the law is enforced and that those responsible for acts of terror and subversion are held accountable, ” the statement concluded.
The group called on all stakeholders, both local and international, to support the Nigerian government’ s efforts in maintaining national unity and preventing further violence. The CNG reiterated that any move towards national disintegration must be handled through diplomatic and legal processes, rather than through violent agitation and insurrection.
As the legal proceedings against Nnamdi Kanu continue, the Coalition urged the judiciary to remain steadfast in delivering justice without external influence. They maintained that only by ensuring accountability for all individuals, regardless of their political affiliations, can Nigeria achieve long- term peace and stability.
