Senator aide resigns over less than ₦6,000 monthly salary
Mr Jamiu Abdulmumeen Okolo, an aide to Senator Salihu Mustapha, the senator representing Kwara Central in the 10th Senate on Youth Mobilization, on Thursday turned in his resignation letter citing the recent political developments in the state.
Okolo, who was appointed by the Senator on the 1st of September 2023, said he wasn’t pleased with the political actions of Senator Mustapha and his aides in recent times, noting that they don’t align with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the goals of the leadership of the APC, in the State, which were the reasons he accepted the appointment in the first place.
The legislative aide, who said he is a firm believer in the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr President and loyal to the party, therefore, couldn’t thrive in such a chaotic environment, attached a bank draft of N100,000, which is the total allowance he has received since his appointment to the resignation letter.
Okolo appreciated Senator Mustapha for the opportunity he gave him to serve him and wished him well in his future political endeavours. He added that his loyalty is to the party; therefore, he would never join any self-serving and self-centred individual to undermine the progressive efforts of the party and its leadership.
The political atmosphere of Kwara State has been tense in the last few weeks, with many observers accusing Senator Mustapha of heating up the polity because of his 2027 governorship ambition. The observers also allege Senator Mustapha of using the palace of the revered Emir of Ilorin to play politics, citing his refusal to seek approval from the state government before he commenced the construction of the pavilion in the palace in an attempt to defame Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq which he perceives as an obstacle to his 2027 political ambition.
However, the likelihood that the Senator will lose more aides in the coming months is high. We learned that some of the aides who plan to turn in their resignation letters are displeased with the political antics of Senator Salihu Mustapha against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election come 2027.
