The question of what happens to the soul after death has been asked for centuries. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, a well- known religious leader, has provided a biblical perspective on the afterlife, addressing the fate of both believers and non- believers. In his teachings, he explains how judgment takes place and what awaits individuals after death.
According to Pastor Chris, the concept of Abraham’ s bosom— a place where righteous souls waited before Christ’ s resurrection— no longer exists. Citing Matthew 27: 52- 53, he explains that after Jesus’ resurrection, the saints who had died were taken with Him. As a result, believers no longer wait in Abraham’ s bosom but instead go directly to Heaven when they die.
For non- believers, however, the outcome is different. Referring to Luke 16: 22- 23, Pastor Chris explains that those who reject salvation go straight to Hell. He describes Hell as a place of torment where souls remain until the final judgment.
Pastor Chris differentiates between two types of judgment: one for believers and another for non- believers. He cites 2 Corinthians 5: 10, stating that believers will stand before the judgment seat of Christ, not for condemnation but for rewards based on their deeds. This judgment determines the heavenly rewards they will receive.
Additionally, he references 1 Corinthians 6: 2- 3, explaining that believers will have a role in judging others, including the world and even angels. However, sinners will face a different judgment known as the Great White Throne Judgment. Those whose names are not found in the Book of Life will be thrown into the lake of fire, which is described as an even worse fate than Hell.
Pastor Chris emphasizes that death has different meanings for believers and non- believers. For Christians, death is seen as a transition into eternal life with Christ. He refers to Acts 7: 56, where Stephen, while being stoned, saw Heaven open and Jesus standing to receive him. This, according to Pastor Chris, is evidence that believers go directly to Heaven upon death.
On the other hand, non- believers face eternal separation from God. Using the example of the rich man in Luke 16, Pastor Chris explains that those who die without Christ find themselves in a place of suffering. He stresses that salvation is the only way to avoid this fate.
Pastor Chris also teaches that death is not the end for believers. He highlights the promise of resurrection, referencing 1 Thessalonians 4: 16- 17, which states that the dead in Christ will rise first, followed by those who are alive at His coming. This, he explains, is the Christian hope— an assurance that death is merely a passage to an everlasting kingdom with God.
In his teachings, Pastor Chris makes it clear that there is no second chance after death. He emphasizes that salvation must be accepted in one’ s lifetime. According to his interpretation of the Bible, every soul will either go to Heaven or Hell immediately after death.
