The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended Olarewaju Idris, a suspect accused of being a serial rapist who allegedly targeted female students of Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijagun.
Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, announced on Monday that a suspect in a serial rape case was arrested on Saturday. The police tracked him down to a popular hotel in Erinwo, Ijebu- Ode, where he was taken into custody.

According to reports, the 31- year- old suspect, Olarewaju Idris, allegedly raped an 18- year- old female student from the Library and Information Department after initially meeting her at a lounge in Ijebu Ode.
The police reported that Olarewaju Idris allegedly used a knife to abduct the 18- year- old student from the nightclub, then took her to a secluded area where he violently assaulted and raped her.
Odutola narrated, ” At approximately 6: 00 am, an 18- year- old survivor arrived at the police station, visibly shaken. She recounted how, around 1: 00 am, the suspect approached her at the club and, under the threat of a knife, forcibly dragged her away to a nearby street, where he raped her before fleeing into the darkness” .

According to the police command, Olarewaju Idris had previously committed a similar crime against another student from Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) at a hotel. It was at this same hotel that he was eventually caught by police operatives.

Odutola added, ” in a twist, another TASUED student, also a 300- level student, arrived at the station shortly after, reporting a similar horrifying encounter” .
” According to her account, between 2: 00 AM and 3: 30 AM, the same suspect lured her onto a motorcycle and took her to Magun Hotel in Ijebu Ode, where he raped her, leaving severe bruises” .
In response, the police command confirmed that Olarewaju Idris is currently being held in lawful custody, while the two victims received immediate medical attention at the Ijebu Ode State Hospital.
Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson, has reassured the public that the authorities are dedicated to ensuring justice is served in the ongoing investigation.
In response to the growing concern over sexual assaults targeting female students, Tai Solarin University of Education’ s (TASUED) spokesperson, Mrs. Ayotunde Odubela, announced that the institution is taking proactive measures to bolster security within student residential areas.
” We have implemented some security measures on campus, but the challenge remains that most of our students reside off- campus” , said Mrs. Odubela.
