2027 BATTLE! APC Downplays Atiku’s Meeting With Obasanjo, Says It Holds No Threath— SEE Details

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has downplayed concerns over a potential political alliance between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stating that it does not threaten President Bola Tinubu’ s chances of re- election in 2027.
The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, dismissed the significance of the recent meeting between Obasanjo, Atiku, and other political figures, describing them as ” indolent and lazy” politicians without any serious political weight.

High- Level Political Meeting In Abeokuta
Atiku, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led a delegation to Obasanjo’ s residence in Abeokuta on Monday. The delegation included:
Aminu Tambuwal (former Governor of Sokoto State)
Liyel Imoke (former Governor of Cross River State)
Other PDP leaders and political allies
While the details of the meeting remain unclear, speculation suggests that discussions revolved around Atiku’ s potential 2027 presidential bid and a possible coalition to challenge the APC.
When asked about his intentions, Atiku downplayed the political angle, stating:
” I am here on a courtesy visit. I am not here to talk politics. ”
However, a source close to the meeting confirmed that discussions focused on forging a political alliance, saying:

” Yes, we are trying to see how we can collectively work together to salvage this country ahead of 2027. ”
APC’ s Response: ” No Threat To Tinubu”
Reacting to the meeting, Senator Basiru dismissed it as insignificant, saying the APC remains focused on governance and upcoming elections, particularly the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State.
” We don’ t react to other people’ s meetings. Our focus is on governance and winning Anambra for the APC. We are not concerned about gatherings of politically idle individuals. ”
Basiru further argued that the opposition remains divided, making it incapable of challenging APC’ s dominance in 2027.
” How can people in disarray be a threat to a solid political party like the APC? We are united and focused, while they are struggling to stay relevant. ”
Opposition Coalitions: Past And Future?
This is not the first time Atiku has sought opposition alliances. In November 2024, he urged opposition parties to unite against the APC, warning against Nigeria becoming a one- party state.
Similarly, in the 2019 elections, Obasanjo endorsed Atiku’ s candidacy against then- President Muhammadu Buhari, citing concerns about governance. However, Atiku lost, as Buhari secured a second term in office.
Reactions From Other Opposition Parties
While some opposition figures support the idea of a coalition, others remain hesitant:
Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has expressed openness to alliances but warned against coalitions driven solely by the desire for power.
The Labour Party (LP), through its National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh, stated that coalition talks are not currently on their agenda.
The New Nigeria People’ s Party (NNPP), however, signaled openness to collaborations led by credible leaders like Obasanjo.
While discussions of a grand opposition alliance continue, the APC remains confident that its governance record and internal stability will secure victory in 2027. Whether Atiku and other opposition figures can form a viable coalition to challenge Tinubu remains to be seen.
