An Assistant Superintendent of Police Shafi’ u Bawa in Niger State tragically took his own life on Saturday, February 8, 2025. His body was discovered hanging from the ceiling of his room by his father, Mallam Usman Bawa, who subsequently reported the incident to the Kontagora police division.

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the incident, with spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun stating that the body was removed and released to the family for burial. The incident is currently under investigation to determine the reason behind Bawa’ s actions.
Tragically, the body of the deceased Assistant Superintendent of Police Shafi’ u Bawa was discovered by his father, hanging from the ceiling in his room. The police were notified and subsequently transported his body to the hospital.
The officer was confirmed dead by medical personnel at a general hospital located in the Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed that Assistant Superintendent of Police Shafi’ u Bawa committed suicide, but the reason behind his actions is still unknown. Superintendent of Police Wasiu Abiodun stated that the cause of Bawa’ s suicide has yet to be determined.
” On 8/2/2025 at about 2 pm, it was reported that one ASP Shafiu Bawah of 61pmf Kotangora committed suicide by hanging himself on the ceiling due to a yet- to- be- ascertained reason” .
