Muraina Akanbi Taiwo, a prominent member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, has firmly stated that any attempt to reinstate the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, will be met with strong resistance. Despite maintaining loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, he emphasized that democracy must be upheld and due process followed in governance.

Speaking on the matter, Taiwo highlighted that while party loyalty is important, it should not overshadow the principles of democracy and justice. Quoting the Qur’ an, specifically Surah Al- Imran (3: 26), he underscored the divine nature of leadership, emphasizing that power ultimately belongs to God, who grants and withdraws it as He sees fit. He expressed faith in divine wisdom guiding the political process in Lagos, asserting that what is destined to happen will inevitably unfold.
Taiwo made these remarks in a statement issued on Wednesday, where he described the impeachment of Obasa as a necessary step long overdue. He stated that the decision was made in the best interest of the state, as numerous assembly members had raised concerns about Obasa’ s leadership style. According to Taiwo, lawmakers felt that their performance in their respective constituencies had been significantly hindered by Obasa’ s approach to leadership. This, he explained, resulted in mounting frustration among members, ultimately compelling them to act.
The GAC member clarified that the decision to remove Obasa was not impulsive but rather the result of careful deliberation and accumulated grievances. He recounted attending two meetings where assembly members openly shared their experiences and frustrations regarding Obasa’ s leadership. From those discussions, it became evident that their dissatisfaction was not personal but rather a reflection of their commitment to serving the people effectively. Taiwo noted that the lawmakers expressed their concerns with a sense of duty and responsibility, making it clear that their actions were motivated by the need for good governance rather than political vendettas.

contributions as a legislator, referring to him as an ” indefatigable politician. ” However, he stressed that the lawmakers’ decision to remove him demonstrated their dedication to upholding democratic values and prioritizing the interests of the people. Taiwo also commended the unity displayed by the legislators, stating that their collective stance showcased their commitment to a more effective and transparent government.
