Nigeria’s ICPC Arraigns Man For Forging UNIABUJA BSc Degree, NYSC Certificates
Mohammed was allegedly forging a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Abuja and a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate.
A man identified as Mr. Baba Kudu Mohammed has been arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for forgery.
Mohammed was allegedly forging a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Abuja and a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate.
Mr. Mohammed was brought before Honorable Justice A.Y. Shafa of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Nyanya, on a four-count charge of forgery.
According to the ICPC, he allegedly presented the forged certificates to the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) in an attempt to secure employment.
One of the charges against Mr. Mohammed reads: “That you, BABA KUDU MOHAMMED, sometime in August 2010, at Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did have in your possession a forged Letter of Exemption from National Service bearing your name with identification number NYSC/CMD/LT. No. 201201201 and serial number 15440, purportedly issued by the National Youth Service Corps Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 368 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 53, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”
Mr. Mohammed pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The prosecution counsel, Mr. Hamza Sani, stated that the ICPC was ready to proceed with the case, as two witnesses were available to testify.
The defence counsel, Mr. M.E. Abubakar, applied for bail on behalf of the defendant, which the prosecution did not oppose.
The court subsequently granted bail under specified conditions and adjourned the case to March 3, 2025, for the commencement of hearings.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by the ICPC to combat certificate forgery and ensure accountability in public and private sector employment processes.
