Ex-Ondo Governor’s Aide Arrested By Nigerian Police In Ondo, Moved To Abuja On Interior Minister’s Orders
Gani was reportedly whisked away from his residence under tight security and transported to the federal capital, Abuja.
Former Special Adviser on Special Duties and Strategy to the Ondo State Governor, Comrade Gani Muhammed Ajowa, has been arrested by operatives of the X-Squad, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and taken to Abuja.
Sources confirmed that the arrest, which took place on Monday night in Akure, was executed on the orders of the Minister of Interior, Bunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Gani was reportedly whisked away from his residence under tight security and transported to the federal capital, Abuja.
A source told SaharaReporters on Thursday that Mr. Gani was secretly transported to Abuja at night, leaving his wife and children traumatised—an act the source described as a gross abuse of power by a serving minister.
“The police have struggled without success to pin any crime on him. Yet, all efforts to secure his release have been futile, despite meeting the required administrative bail conditions,” the source said.
The source alleged that the influence of the Minister of Interior, Tunji-Ojo, in the matter is unmistakable.
“He has vowed to punish him, wrongly believing he was responsible for the embarrassment he suffered while attempting to interfere in the January 18, 2025, Ondo State local government elections at Ajowa, in Akoko North West LGA of Ondo State,” the source added.
In a Facebook post on January 18, 2025, Ajowa shared a video showing individuals throwing stones at unseen targets. He captioned it: “People of Ajowa Akoko standing up to the minister’s anti-party activity in the Local Government Election.”
He accused Tunji-Ojo of working for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, in the local government election, saying: “Even women resist Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister Of Interior To President Tinubu.
“The interior minister, Bunmi Tunji-Ojo was resisted today by the ordinary people of Ajowa Akoko in Akoko Northwest when he worked and funded ATIKU’s PDP in his own local government area in Ondo State.
“He provided money and deployed the men of civil defense, a department of the ministry he superintendents on as a minister to President TINUBU.
“The minister who is popularly referred to as BTO was blamed for working against the political party that made him.”
