Electricity Distribution Company Speaks on strike, clarifies staff welfare concerns
The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, has dismissed reports that its employees have embarked on a strike.
The electricity distribution company stated that the action observed was a picketing exercise organized by the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE.
In a statement issued on Monday, IBEDC’s Coordinating Head of Corporate Services, Angela Olanrewaju, urged customers and stakeholders to disregard claims of a workers’ strike.
“We urge our customers and various stakeholders across our franchise areas to disregard media reports that our workers have embarked on a strike beginning today,” the statement read.
IBEDC clarified that the protest was organized by NUEE over concerns, including the alleged unfair dismissal of some employees and other staff welfare issues.
“The staff members in question were let go due to consistent poor performance, following the company’s Conditions of Service, and proper procedures were followed in these exits,” Olanrewaju stated.
She reaffirmed the company’s commitment to employee welfare, adding that despite the country’s economic challenges, IBEDC has continued to pay full salaries each month.
“Regarding other concerns related to staff welfare, we want to affirm that the company has always prioritized the well-being of its employees,” she said.
IBEDC assured stakeholders that it remains dedicated to maintaining a positive work environment and ensuring that staff concerns are addressed appropriately.
“The company remains committed to excellent staff welfare, maintaining a positive work environment, and safeguarding the interests of both its employees and stakeholders,” the statement concluded.
IBEDC further reassured customers of its commitment to excellence in service delivery, urging the public to remain calm as it works to resolve any outstanding concerns with NUEE.
